The delegate selection processes herein, along with any and all dates and delegate counts associated therewith, are unofficial and based on either (1) information obtained from either Major Party, (2) Presidential Primary dates established by currently-effective State statute, or- where the foregoing information could not be obtained- (3) the state's 2020 delegate selection process and associated dates adjusted to the corresponding dates in 2024 and labeled "(presumably)" or "Circa".

Saturday 23 March 2024: The Congressional District caucus meets in Pierre to slate National Convention Congressional District delegates, for each Presidential Preference and Uncommitted, to appear on the primary ballot.
This Presidential Primary coincides with a state/local primary. These coinciding primaries tend to have an impact upon voter turnout.
Participation in South Dakota's delegate selection process is open to all voters who wish to participate as Democrats. Voters registered as Democrats, Independents, or No Party Affiliation may participate.
Tuesday 4 June 2024 (presumably): South Dakota Primary. Hours reportedly 7:00a-7:00p CDT (1200-0000 UTC) / 7:00a-7:00p MDT (1300-0100 UTC). Delegate Pledging: Proportional Primary. Voter Eligibility: Modified Primary.
14 of 19 delegates to the Democratic National Convention are pledged to presidential contenders based on the primary results statewide as South Dakota has only a single at-large congressional seat. Write-in presidential candidates are not allowed. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be pledged National Convention delegates at either the congressional district or statewide level. Friday 14 June - Saturday 15 June 2024: State Convention / State Party Central Committee.
National Convention District, Pledged PLEO, and At-Large delegates are elected according to the statewide primary vote.
