2024 Delegate Selection Plan from the New Mexico Democratic Party.

16 June 2023: DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee Meeting found this plan in conditional compliance. Due to the June primary, the state qualifies for a 20% bonus which is 5 delegates.

No later than 15 February 2024, the Chief Justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court will chair a committee meeting to nominate and certify to the Secretary of State the names of all presidential candidates "generally advocated and nationally recognized or supported by any major political party in the state as candidates of the major political parties participating in the presidential primary."

16 March 2024 (or 2 April depending on source): Presidential candidate petition filing deadline (alternative to the committee meeting).

This Presidential Primary coincides with a state/local primary. These coinciding primaries tend to have an impact upon voter turnout.

Participation in New Mexico's delegate selection process is open to all voters registered as Democrats.

Tuesday 4 June 2024: New Mexico Primary. Hours reportedly 7:00a-7:00p MDT (1300-0100 UTC). Delegate Pledging: Proportional Primary. Voter Eligibility: Closed Primary.

A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be allocated National Convention delegates at either the congressional district or statewide level. How the Democratic Proportional Delegate Allocation Math works.

  • 23 district delegates are to be allocated proportionally to presidential contenders based on the Primary results in each of the State's 3 congressional districts.
  • In addition, 11 delegates are to be allocated to presidential contenders based on the Primary vote statewide.
    • 7 at-large National Convention delegates
    • 4 Pledged PLEOs
