The Presidential Primary is moved from the 4th to the 1st Tuesday in April (2 April 2024) for 2024 only. |
Participation in Delaware's delegate selection process is open to all voters who are registered to vote as Republicans. "Pursuant to Delaware State Law, if the Delaware Democratic Party submits the name of only one Presidential Candidate, and no other candidates file for the ballot, the state run Presidential Primary shall be cancelled. Write-in candidates are not permitted. Tuesday 2 April 2024: Delaware Primary. Hours 7:00a-8:00p EDT (1100-0000 UTC). Delegate Binding: Winner-Take-All Primary. Voter Eligibility: Closed Primary.
All 16 of Delaware's delegates to the Republican National Convention are allocated to the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes statewide in today's Delaware Presidential Primary. [Rules of the Republican Party of the State Of Delaware. Article XI. Section 3.] The 3 party leaders delegates (the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the Delaware's Republican Party) will attend the National Convention, by virtue of their position, bound to the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes in the Presidential primary. All Delegates are bound to vote for the winner of the primary on the 1st ballot. If the winning candidate withdraws, dies, or otherwise releases his or her delegates or there are subsequent ballots, then each delegate may vote for any other presidential candidate.
