Participants in the Precinct Caucuses must consider themselves a member of the DFL Party and not an active member of any other political party.

Tuesday 27 February 2024: Minnesota Precinct Caucuses. Hours begin at 7:00p CST (0100 UTC).

Delegates are elected to the Organizing Unit Conventions.

 

Minnesota has same-day registration and does not have registration by party. Party preference is declared when requesting a primary ballot, and the preference is publicly recorded.

The Presidential Primary is scheduled for 5 March 2024 unless major party chairs agree on a different date by 1 March 2023.

Tuesday 5 March 2024: Minnesota Primary. Hours reportedly 7:00a-8:00p CST (1300-0200 UTC). Voting begins at 10:00 AM in some townships. Delegate Pledging: Proportional Primary. Voter Eligibility: Closed Primary.

75 of 93 delegates to the Democratic National Convention are pledged to presidential contenders based on the results of the voting in the Minnesota Primary. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be pledged National Convention delegates at either the congressional district or statewide level. Write-in candidates are allowed and Uncommitted appears on the ballot. How the Democratic Proportional Delegate Allocation Math works.

  • 49 district delegates are to be pledged proportionally to presidential contenders based on the results from the primary in each of the State's 8 congressional districts.
  • In addition, 26 delegates are to be pledged to presidential contenders based statewide results of the primary.
    • 16 at-large National Convention delegates
    • 10 Pledged PLEOs

Saturday 9 March - Sunday 21 April 2024: Organizing Unit Conventions.

Delegates are elected to the Congressional District and State Conventions.

 

Saturday 4 May - Sunday 12 May 2024: Congressional District Conventions.

National Convention District delegates are elected according to the results of the primary.

 

Friday 31 May - Sunday 2 June 2024: State Convention.

National Convention Pledged PLEO and At-Large delegates are elected according to the results of the primary.

The remaining 18 National Convention delegates consist of

  • 18 Unpledged PLEO delegates:
    • 11 Democratic National Committee members.
    • 6 Members of Congress (2 Senators and 4 Representatives).
    • 1 Governor.
    • 0 Distinguished Party Leaders.

These 18 delegates and will go to the Democratic National Convention officially "Unpledged".
