2024 Presidential Primaries, Caucuses, and Conventions
The delegate selection processes herein, along with any and all dates and delegate counts associated therewith, are unofficial and based on either (1) information obtained from either Major Party, (2) Presidential Primary dates established by currently-effective State statute, or- where the foregoing information could not be obtained- (3) the state's 2020 delegate selection process and associated dates adjusted to the corresponding dates in 2024 and labeled "(presumably)" or "Circa".

5 January 2024: Presidential candidate filing deadline. The Kentucky Board of Elections will meet on 18 December 2023 for the purpose of nominating those candidates who have qualified for matching federal campaign funds.
Circa March 2024 (date not set): Kentucky County Meetings. The County Meetings elect delegates to the District and State Conventions. [Republican Party of Kentucky Rules 7.02]
Circa April 2024 (date not set): Congressional District Conventions. 3 National Convention District Delegates are elected in each of the state's 6 Congressional Districts.
This Presidential Primary coincides with a state/local primary. These coinciding primaries tend to have an impact upon voter turnout.
Kentucky holds closed party primaries. Voters must identify party preference at the time of registration (at least 29 days before the election) to be eligible to vote in the primary election.
... No candidate's name shall appear on any voting machine or absentee ballot more than once, except that a candidate's name may appear twice if he is a candidate for a primary or a regular election and also a candidate to fill a vacancy in the same office required .... [Kentucky Revised Statutes 118.405]
Tuesday 21 May 2024 (presumably): Kentucky Primary. Hours reportedly 6:00a-6:00p EDT (1000-2200 UTC) / 6:00a-6:00p CDT (1100-2300 UTC). Delegate Binding: Proportional Primary. Voter Eligibility: Closed Primary.
All 46 of Kentucky's delegates to the Republican National Convention are bound to presidential contenders based on the results of the voting in today's Kentucky Primary.
3 October 2023: RPK will use proportional allocation with a 15% threshold in 2024. This allocation of delegate votes shall bind the authorized delegates of the Kentucky Republican Party on the first ballot at the Republican National Convention" [Republican Party of Kentucky Rules 11.09.(a)].
Delegates to the national convention are bound for the first ballot. If a candidate dies or withdraws, any delegates bound to that candidate become uncommitted. "Withdrawal shall mean notice in writing by the candidate to the chairman of the Kentucky delegation prior to the first ballot." [KRS 118.641(2)]
Circa June 2024 (date not set): State Convention in TBD. . The 25 At-Large National Convention Delegates are according to the results of the Presidential Primary.
The 3 party leaders, the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the Kentucky's Republican Party, will attend the convention as bound delegates by virtue of their position.
Primary dates marked "presumably" and polling times marked "reportedly" are based on unofficial or estimated data (especially as regards local variations from a jurisdictionwide statutory and/or regulatory standard) and are, thereby, subject to change.
