This Presidential Primary coincides with a state/local primary. These coinciding primaries tend to have an impact upon voter turnout.

Participation in New Mexico's delegate selection process is open to all voters registered as Democrats.

34 of 46 delegates to the Democratic National Convention are pledged to presidential contenders based on the results of the voting in today's New Mexico Primary. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be allocated National Convention delegates at either the congressional district or statewide level.   • 23 district delegates are to be allocated proportionally to presidential contenders based on the Primary results in each of the State's 3 congressional districts.
  • In addition, 11 delegates are to be allocated to presidential contenders based on the Primary vote statewide.

    • 4 Pledged PLEOs

Saturday 13 June 2020: District Conventions. National Convention District delegates are elected by state delegates according to the results of the Presidential Primary.

 

Friday 19 June - Saturday 20 June 2020: State Post-Primary Convention.

State Post-Primary Convention elects National Convention Pledged PLEO and At-large delegates according to the statewide results of the Presidential Primary.

The remaining 12 National Convention delegates consist of

  • 12 Unpledged PLEO delegates:
    • 5 Democratic National Committee members.
    • 5 Members of Congress (2 Senators and 3 Representatives).
    • 1 Governor.
    • 1 Distinguished Party Leader (former Democratic National Committee Chairman Fred Roy Harris).

These 12 delegates and will go to the Democratic National Convention officially "Unpledged".
