Participation in North Dakota's delegate selection process is open to all voters who wish to participate as Democrats. North Dakota has neither party nor voter registration.

Tuesday 10 March 2020: North Dakota Firehouse Caucuses. Hours 11:00a-7:00p CDT / 10:00a-6:00p MDT (1600-0000 UTC). Delegate Pledging: Proportional Caucus/Convention. Voter Eligibility: Open Caucus/Convention. Voters can cast their ballot at party designated locations throughout the state on Caucus Day or by mail.

A mandatory 15 percent threshold at the statewide level is required in order for a presidential contender to be pledged National Convention delegates. Wednesday 11 March - Saturday 14 March 2020: North Dakota Legislative District Conventions convene to elect delegates to the State Convention.

 

Thursday 19 March - Saturday 21 March 2020: State Convention in Minot. 9 National Convention District delegates are elected according to the results of the Firehouse Caucuses.

 

Saturday 4 April 2020: Select Committee on Delegates Meeting. 2 Pledged PLEO and 3 At-Large National Convention delegates are elected by a quorum of district delegates according to the results of the Firehouse Caucuses.

The remaining 4 National Convention delegates consist of

  • 4 Unpledged PLEO delegates:
    • 4 Democratic National Committee members.
    • 0 Members of Congress (0 Senators and 0 Representatives).
    • 0 Governors.
    • 0 Distinguished Party Leaders.

These 4 delegates and will go to the Democratic National Convention officially "Unpledged".
