Tuesday 5 April 2016 (presumably): All 42 of Wisconsin's delegates to the Republican National Convention are allocated to presidential contenders in today's Wisconsin Presidential Primary.

  • 24 district delegates are to be allocated to presidential contenders based on the primary results in each of the 8 congressional districts: each congressional district is assigned 3 National Convention delegates and the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes in that district will receive all 3 of that district's National Convention delegates. [Republican Party of Wisconsin Constitution Article X Section 5.]
  • 18 at-large delegates (10 base at-large delegates plus 5 bonus delegates plus 3 RNC delegates) are to be bound to the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes in the primary statewide. [Republican Party of Wisconsin Constitution Article X Section 6.]

After receiving the results of the Presidential Primary, each District Chairman, in consultation with his or her District Executive Committee and in consultation with the committee of the winning presidential candidate ... shall submit a list of ... names to be considered by the candidate committee for the selection of their District delegates ... At-Large delegates ... shall be selected by the committee of the candidate ... and a list of said delegates ... shall be ratified by the State Executive Committee. It shall be understood that the candidate's committee shall have final approval of the list of At-Large delegates ... [Republican Party of Wisconsin Constitution Article X Section 5.]

National Convention Delegates are bound by the results of the primary unless either released by the candidate or the candidate fails to receive at least 1/3 of the total votes cast in any vote for nomination. [Article X Sections 3. and 4.]

 

Wednesday 6 April - Sunday 17 April 2016 (presumably): District Caucuses. National Convention District Delegates are selected according to the results of the primary.

 

Saturday 14 May 2016: State Convention. The statewide delegates are selected by the candidate receiving a plurality of the statewide votes and ratified by the State Executive Committee.

 

 

SB 63, introduced by state Senator Tim Carpenter (Democratic) on 3 March 2015, would move the presidential primary from the 1st Tuesday in April to the 3rd Tuesday in February.
