Results from Samoa News on 24 March 2016: Update: Republican caucus confirms local delegates will go “unbound”."Trump’s local campaign chair, John Raynar, who is ... a delegate, told Samoa News ... that he will remain 'unbound' ... Charles Warren, local chairman of the Ted Cruz campaign and ... a delegate, told Samoa News that he would ... remain 'unbound' ... Both men acknowledged their support for their respective candidates, but will not commit to a candidate for now ..."

4 May 2016 update: American Samoa's Republicans Endorse Trump from the Republican Party of American Samoa. "The Republican Party of American Samoa gathered to pledge all 9 delegates to Donald Trump ...". Accordingly, we have listed all 9 delegates in our soft count for Trump.


   

Tuesday 22 March 2016 (presumably): A Territorial Caucus convenes as a Convention to choose 6 delegates to the Republican National Convention. Delegate Selection: Delegate Selection Caucus/Convention. Voter Eligibility: Open Caucus/Convention.

  • "The delegates from American Samoa are chosen in such a way so that they best reflect the presidential preference of the Caucus/Convention participants."

In addition, 3 party leaders, the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the American Samoa's Republican Party, will attend the convention as unpledged delegates by virtue of their position.

American Samoa's delegates are unbound unless instructed otherwise by the Territorial Caucus. "The delegates ... may be instructed by resolution of the body which elected them as to the disposition of their vote on any business before the National Convention." [REPUBLICAN PARTY OF AMERICAN SAMOA BY-LAWS. Article VII Section 2. (d)]

Delegates and alternates ratified through acclamation by all who attended the caucus are:

  • 3 RNC: Chairman Utu Abe Malae, National Committeeman Su’a Carl Schuster and National Committeewoman Congresswoman Aumua Amata.
  • 6 delegates: Vice Chairman John Raynar, Taulapapa William Sword, Charles Warren, Treasurer Tina Ioane, Ann Longnecker and Joan Galea'i Holland.
  • 6 alternates: Jim Longnecker, Salote Schuster, Atonio Ioane, Lucia Bartley, John Laumatia and Roy Hall.
