There have been 3 deaths, 4 resignations, and 3 changes of party affiliation in the 116th House.

  • Member of Congress Thomas Anthony "Tom" Marino (Republican, Pennsylvania, CD 12) resigned on 17 January effective 23 January 2019.
  • Member of Congress Walter B. Jones, Jr. (Republican, North Carolina, CD 3) died on 10 February 2019.
  • Member of Congress Fred Keller (Republican, Pennsylvania, CD 12) was sworn on 3 January 2019.
  • Member of Congress Gregory Francis "Greg" Murphy (Republican, North Carolina, CD 3) was elected in a 10 September 2019 special election and sworn on 17 September 2019.
  • Member of Congress James Daniel "Dan" Bishop (Republican, North Carolina, CD 9) was elected in a 10 September 2019 special election.
  • Member of Congress Sean P. Duffy (Republican, Wisconsin, CD 7) resigned on 26 August effective 23 September 2019.
  • Member of Congress Christopher Carl "Chris" Collins (Republican, New York, CD 27) resigned on 30 September 2019 effective 1 October.
  • Member of Congress Elijah E. Cummings (Democratic, Maryland, CD 7) died on 17 October 2019.
  • Member of Congress Katherine Lauren "Katie" Hill (Democratic, California, CD 25) resigned on 27 October 2019 effective 1 November 2019.
  • Member of Congress Jeff Van Drew (Democratic, New Jersey, CD 2) who was first elected as a Democrat in 2018 switched his affiliation to Republican on 20 December 2019.
  • Member of Congress Duncan Duane Hunter (Republican, California, CD 50) announced his resignation on 7 January 2020 effective 13 January 2020.
  • Member of Congress Mark Randal Meadows (Republican, North Carolina, CD 11) resigned on 30 March 2020 to become Chief of Staff to President Donald Trump.
  • Member of Congress Kweisi Mfume (Democratic, Maryland, CD 7) was elected in a 28 April 2020 special election and sworn on TBD.
  • Member of Congress Justin Amash (Libertarian, Michigan, CD 3) who was first elected as a Republican in 2010 switched his affiliation to Independent on 4 July 2019 and to Libertarian on 1 May 2020.
  • Member of Congress Thomas "Tom" Tiffany (Republican, Wisconsin, CD 7) was elected in a 12 May 2020 special election and sworn on 19 May.
  • Member of Congress Michael "Mike" Garcia (Republican, California, CD 25) was elected in a 12 May 2020 special election and sworn on 19 May.
  • Member of Congress John Lee Ratcliffe (Republican, Texas, CD 4) resigned on 21 May 2020 to become National Intelligence Director to President Donald Trump.
  • Member of Congress Christopher L. "Chris" Jacobs (Republican, New York, CD 27) was elected in a 23 June 2020 special election and sworn on 21 July 2020.
  • Member of Congress John R. Lewis (Democratic , Georgia, CD 5) died on 17 July 2020.
  • Member of Congress Kwanza Hall (Democratic, Georgia, CD 5) was elected in a 1 December 2020 special election and sworn on TBD.
  • Member of Congress Paul Cook (Republican, California, CD 8) resigned on 7 December 2020 to take a seat as a San Bernardino County Supervisor.
  • Member of Congress Paul Mitchell, III (Republican, Michigan, CD 11) who was first elected as a Republican in 2016 switched his affiliation to Independent on 14 December 2020.
