Public Instruction Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster who was first elected in 2001 and re-elected in 2005 filed a Notification of Non-Candidacy for 2009 on 23 December 2008. The two highest vote getters in the 17 February Spring Primary will proceed to the 7 April 2009 Spring Election. According to the Wisconsin Constitution, the State Superintendent takes office the first Monday in July. The two higest vote getters in the 17 February Primary, Tony Evers (35%) and Rose Fernandez (31%) advanced to the 7 April Spring Election. Tony Evers won the Spring Election with 57% of the vote. State Superintendent-elect Tony Evers took office Monday 6 July. |
