Lieutenant Governor Lynn Rogers (Democratic), who was first elected in 2018, was appointed on 10 December 2020 by Governor Laura Kelly (Democratic) to the State Treasurer's seat on 2 January 2021. The appointment is effective when Congressman-elect Jake LaTurner vacates the office in January. The Treasurer's vacancy is the result of state Treasurer Jacob "Jake" LaTurner (Republican) election to U.S. House CD 2 seat on 3 November 2020. Governor Laura Kelly (Democratic) will subsequently name a new Lieutenant Governor.

On 14 December 2020, Governor Laura Kelly (Democratic) announced that Commerce Secretary David Toland would be the new Lieutenant Governor.
