All candidates from all parties appear on the 20 March 2021 open primary ballot. If no candidate receives a majority (50% of the vote plus 1), a 24 April runoff will be held between the top two vote getters.
Since no candidate received 50% or more of the vote in the Saturday 20 March 2021 election, the top 2 vote-getters, state Senator Troy A. Carter, Sr. (Democratic) 36% and state Senator Karen Carter Peterson (Democratic) 23% advance to the 24 April 2021 runoff.
