| Louisiana will use Closed Party Primaries in 2026 US House and US Senate. 
 Candidates can withdraw until poll closing time on election day. Should a candidate withdraw after the ballots are printed, votes cast for that candidate are not counted. Louisiana does not permit write-ins. 17 January 2024: Governor Jeff Landry signed HB 17 which changes congressional primary nominations to be by party. 15 May 2024: The U.S. Supreme Court ordered Louisiana to use the U.S. House districts boundaries with 2 majority-black districts, as set in April 2024, for the 2024 Elections. Closed Party Primaries in 2026 from the Secretary of State [Act 1 of the 2024 First Extraordinary Legislative Session and Act 640 of the 2024 Regular Legislative Session]. 30 October 2025 update. The legislature may be moving the 18 April party primary for the congressional races to 16 May. Primary runoffs would be moved from 30 May to 2 June. The qualifying period would be moved from 14-16 January to 11-13 February. |
