This is a list of candidates and their state ballot access status. Write-in candidates, that is, those whose name does not appear on the printed ballot, are so noted.

Two candidates obtained ballot access in all 51 jurisdictions (50 states and the District of Columbia) totalling 538 electoral votes:

  • Senator John Kerry (Democrat)
  • President George W. Bush (Republican)

Four other candidates have obtained ballot access in a sufficient number of states to theoretically win the Presidency with 270 electoral votes.

  • Michael Badnarik (Libertarian) is on the ballot in 49 jurisdictions. He did NOT make the ballot in New Hampshire and Oklahoma.
  • David Cobb (Green) is on the ballot in 28 jurisdictions.
  • Ralph Nader (Independent / Reform) is on the ballot in 35 jurisdictions.
  • Michael Anthony Peroutka (Constitution / U.S. Taxpayers) is on the ballot in 36 jurisdictions. In addition to what is listed below, the Constitution Party reports that they have official write-in status in Illinois, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
