A Boston Herald report on the 3 May 2008 State Convention states 12 At-Large delegates and 5 district delegates are McCain supporters. 1 district delegate is a Paul supporter.

Partial results as of 1:50p EST on 8 February 2008 from the Maine Republican Party with 95.95% of the 1 to 3 February 2008 caucuses reporting.

Partial results as of 10P EST on 2 February 2008 from cnn.com with 428 out of 626 (68%) of the 1 to 3 February 2008 caucuses reporting.

We are awaiting a final figure on the turnout.

Here's how we estimate the delegate count: (Based on the February 2008 Maine Caucus results. Note that zero national convention delegates are allocated during the Municipal Caucuses - national convention delegates are first elected in May. Maine delegates are not bound to any candidate.)

We have allocated the state's 18 non-party leader delegates proportionally according to the State Delegates elected for those candidates receiving 5% or more of the vote. This is a very rough estimate and is will change by the time the state convention meets.

The Rules of the Maine Republican Party as Adopted at Convention on May 5, 2006

Friday 1 February - Sunday 3 February 2008: Maine Republican Party Municipal Caucuses. Each Precinct Caucus chooses the precinct's delegates to the Maine District Caucuses and State Convention.

  • There is no formal system applied in the Municipal Caucuses to relate the presidential preference of the participants to the choice of the municipality's delegates to the District Caucuses and State Convention. The participants at each Municipal Caucus alone determine if presidential preference is to be a factor in such choices and, if so, how it is to be applied.

Saturday 3 May 2008: District Caucuses and State Convention. The National Convention delegates are elected during the second day of the State Convention.

  • 6 district delegates are elected by caucus participants from each of Maine's 2 Congressional districts. These delegates will attend the Republican National Convention officially "Unpledged". [The Rules of the Maine Republican Party as Adopted at Convention on May 5, 2006. Rule 32-A.]
    • CD 1: 3
    • CD 2: 3
  • 12 delegates are elected by the Maine State Convention as a whole. These delegates will attend the Republican National Convention officially "Unpledged".
  • 3 party leaders, the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the Maine's Republican Party, will attend the convention as unpledged delegates by virtue of their position.
