Tuesday 13 March 2012: A Territorial Caucus convenes as a Convention to choose 6 delegates to the Republican National Convention.

  • "The delegates from American Samoa are chosen in such a way so that they best reflect the presidential preference of the Caucus/Convention participants."

In addition, 3 party leaders, the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the American Samoa's Republican Party, will attend the convention by virtue of their position.

American Samoa's delegates are unbound unless instructed otherwise by the Territorial Caucus.


13 March 2012 update from Samoa News: American Samoa GOP ready to caucus - at bar.

14 March 2012: Media reports state that Romney won the support of the 6 unpledged delegates and the 3 RNC delegates in the 13 March caucuses. About 70 people participated but no formal vote was taken. Report from NPR. Report from Samao News.

Dr. Victor T. Tofaeono was elected Chairman for a 2 year term effective 13 March 2012 ... Aumoeualogo T. J. Fuavai and Aumua Amata were elected to 4 year terms as National Committeeman and National Committeewoman ... 6 persons were elected as National Convention Delegates: Falema'o M. “Phil” Pili; Su'a Carl Schuster; Aofaga Mickey R. Salanoa; Brandon Smart; Salote Lutu Schuster; Ali Pili. 6 persons were elected as National Convention Alternate: Bernadette Lafaele; Sherry Ah Hing; Va’a Tofaeono; Natasha Ledoux; J.R. Fa’aola; Johnny Mapu.
Chairman Tofaeono stated "We're excited and look forward to the national convention to cast our 9 delegate votes for Govervor Mitt Romney....

14 March 2012. Media report from talanei.com: Mitt Romney gets all nine votes of the American Samoa Republican Party. Thanks to Andy Anderson for the link.

The chance was given to members to state who they wanted to vote for ... Mitt Romney had the most support but their were a few votes for Ron Paul, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich ... Each of the delegates selected for the Republican Convention ... said they would endorse Romney.
