The Green, Libertarian, Natural Law, U.S. Taxpayers, and Working Class parties may nominate by caucus/convention: ... Caucuses ... and ... conventions ... shall be held not later than the August Primary. To qualify, a party's nominee must receive at least 1% of the total number of votes cast for winner of the office of Secretary of State in the last preceding state election [MCL 168.685(6)]. The filing deadline for minor parties (Green, Libertarian, Natural Law, U.S. Taxpayers, and Working Class) on the business day immediately following the conclusion of the state convention or county caucus. All minor party nominating conventions and caucuses must be held on or before TBD. The Libertarian Party convention date is TBD. Primary elections are for Democratic, Libertarian, and Republican candidates. To qualify, a party's nominee must receive at least 5% of the total number of votes cast for the office of Secretary of State in the last preceding state election [MCL 168.532]. Candidates who are not affiliated with a political party appear on the ballot as "No Party Affiliation". Gubernatorial candidates without party affiliation must designate their Lieutenant Governor running mate on or before TBD. Under Michigan Election Law, the name of a party's presidential and vice presidential nominees must be delivered to the Department of State from the political parties within 1 business day of the conclusion of the party's convention. Beyond these requirements, the rules and regulations for nominating presidential candidates are governed entirely by the state and national parties. In accordance with state law, the Secretary of State will issue the formal call of the election by 6 September 2024 – 60 days before Election Day. |
