Mississippi Primaries for Statewide offices and Congress

Since President George W. Bush was the only candidate to qualify for the 9 March 2004 ballot, there will be no primary. President Bush will receive all the delegates.

Tuesday 9 March 2004 (cancelled): 35 of 38 of Mississippi's delegates to the Republican National Convention are allocated to presidential contenders in today's Mississippi Presidential Primary.

  • 12 district delegates are to be allocated to presidential contenders based on the primary results in each of the 4 congressional districts: each congressional district is assigned 3 National Convention delegates and the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes in that district will receive all 3 of that district's National Convention delegates.
  • 23 at-large delegates (10 base at-large delegates plus 13 bonus delegates) are to be allocated to the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes in the primary statewide.

In addition, 3 party leaders, the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the Mississippi's Republican Party, will attend the convention as unpledged delegates by virtue of their position.

County Conventions: 24 April 2004
State Convention: 14-15 May 2004
