President George W. Bush was the only candidate to qualify for the primary. Since there was only one candidate, the primary was cancelled and President Bush will receive all of South Dakota's delegates.

SOUTH DAKOTA Primary and Special Election Returns from an official source

   

Tuesday 1 June 2004 (cancelled) - 24 of South Dakota's delegates to the Republican National Convention are allocated to presidential contenders based on the results of the voting in today's South Dakota Presidential Primary.

  • 24 delegates to the National Convention are to be allocated to presidential contenders based on the primary vote statewide. A 20% threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be allocated National Convention delegates at the statewide level.

In addition, 3 party leaders, the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the South Dakota's Republican Party, will attend the convention as unpledged delegates by virtue of their position.

26 March 2004: Regional National Convention Delegate Selection Meeting- Pierre (Regions may opt to hold a regional meeting anywhere in their region)

27 March 2004: State National Convention Delegate Selection Meeting
