19 January 2004 update: The RNC reports that the Kansas Republican party's 39 delegates are bound to the President for the first ballot.

12 March 2003: The GOP-controlled Senate passed a bill to cancel the primary and return to the caucus system. Republican House Speaker Doug Mays said the reason was twofold: Bush likely will be nominated again and the state is facing a $750 million shortfall. (FOX news)

23 August 2003: The KA SoS confirms the 2004 primary is cancelled.

   

Monday 1 March - Tuesday 15 June 2004: Kansas' delegates to the Republican National Convention will be chosen during District Caucuses and by the State Committee. Delegates will be choosen during the State Committee Meeting.

  • 12 district delegates are to be selected by District Caucuses held in each of the 4 congressional districts: each congressional district is assigned 3 National Convention delegates.
  • 24 at-large delegates (10 base at-large delegates plus 14 bonus delegates) are to be selected by the State Committee.
  • In addition, 3 party leaders, the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the Kansas's Republican Party, will attend the convention as pledged delegates by virtue of their position.
