Northern Marianas State and Local Government

On 4 November 2008, the NORTHERN MARIANAS elected their own non-voting Delegate to the House of Representatives for the very first time.

Governor Benigno Repeki "Ben" Fitial signed HB 16-220 on 24 July 2009: If no candidate receives 50% or more of the votes cast for Governor and Lieutenant Governor, a runoff election is held between the top 2 vote getters. The runoff is held 14 days after the results of the general election are certified. The certification is to occur not later than 10 days after the general election.

The 2009 Gubernatorial election is Saturday 7 November. The run-off, if necessary, would be held circa 1 December.
