10 April 2001 Primary With 98% of the precincts reporting - DIANE E. WATSON 33%, KEVIN MURRAY 27%, NATE HOLDEN 17%, LEO JAMES TERRELL 5%, PHILIP A. LOWE 3%, TAD DALEY 2%, JULES BAGNERIS 1%, WANDA JAMES 1%, KIRSTEN WONDER ALBRECHT 1%, BLAIR HAMILTON TAYLOR 1%, FRANK EVANS III 0%. Since no candidate received 50% of the vote in the 10 April 2001 Special Nonpartisan Primary, a runoff election will be held Tuesday 5 June 2001.

Friday 8 December 2000: Congressman Julian Dixon, 66, passed away following an apparent heart attack in Los Angeles. He was a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and represented West Los Angeles for 22 years. Representative Dixon was relected to his seat on 7 November 2000. House seats are filled only by Special Election. California has a nonpartisan special primary/special election system.
