Saturday 19 January 2008 Precinct Caucuses

Final Saturday 19 January 2008 Precinct Caucus results from a party source. Below is an estimate of the 19 January 2008 delegate count by CD. Note that no national convention delegates are elected on 19 January. The process of allocating national convention delegates begins in April. Reference: http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/1/19/181854/832.

District 1: Clinton 3, Obama 3
District 2: (Washoe) Clinton 1, Obama 2
District 2: (Rural) Clinton 0, Obama 1
District 2: (Clark) Clinton 1, Obama 1
District 3: (Clark) Clinton 2, Obama 2
At-Large: Clinton 2, Obama 1
PLEO: Clinton 3, Obama 3
Total: Obama 13, Clinton 12.

Here's how we estimate the delegate count on 10 January 2008: (Since we do not have a breakdown of the vote by CD)

  1. A candidate must receive 15% or more of the total popular vote to qualify for delegates. Discard votes cast for those candidates who do not qualify. Obama, and Clinton have qualified for delegates.
  2. Allocate Congressional District delegates from the qualified vote in each district. Allocate Pledged PLEO and At-Large delegates using the state-wide qualified vote.
  3. In each jurisdiction (CD and statewide):
    1. Total qualified vote = total votes cast for the qualifying candidates in the jurisdiction.
    2. Allocation = (delegates for the jurisdiction) × (candidate's popular vote) ÷ (total qualified vote).
    3. Assign each candidate the WHOLE NUMBER of delegates.
    4. If delegates remain, allocate each of the remaining delegates to those candidates with the LARGEST REMAINDERS.

Articles in the Reno Gazette-Journal and AP report that Obama won 14 national delegates to Clinton's 11 at the State Convention. With about 2,510 state delegates participating, Obama received 55% to Clinton's 45%. An estimate made from the caucus results predicted Obama 13 and Clinton 12. The reason for the difference was Obama out performed Clinton in rural areas of Nevada and Washoe County.
