  • Congressman Walter B. Jones, Jr. (Republican, North Carolina, CD 3) died on 10 February 2019.
  • Congressman Fred Keller (Republican, Pennsylvania, CD 12) was sworn on 3 January 2019.
  • Congressman Gregory Francis "Greg" Murphy (Republican, North Carolina, CD 3) was elected in a 10 September 2019 special election and sworn on 17 September 2019.

On 27 February 2019, Governor Cooper called a Special Election to fill the vacant seat in CD 3 caused by the 10 February 2019 death of Congressman Walter B. Jones, Jr. (Republican).

  • Friday 8 March 2019 - Filing Deadline. Candidate List from the State Board of Elections.
  • Tuesday 30 April 2019 - Special Party Primary. If no candidate receives 30% of the vote, the two leading candidates proceed to a run off. Unopposed candidates do not appear on the primary ballot. Returns from an official source.
  • Tuesday 9 July 2019 - Special Party Runoff or General Election (depending on the need for a runoff). Returns from an official source.
  • Tuesday 10 September 2019 - Special Election (if there is a runoff). Returns from the North Carolina State Board of Elections. State Representative Gregory Francis "Greg" Murphy (Republican) is elected with 62% of the vote.

 6 November 2018: The unofficial results for the General Election are Mark Everette Harris (Republican) 139,246 votes, 49.25%; Daniel Kent "Dan" McCready (Democratic) 138,341 votes, 48.93%; Jeffery "Jeff" Scott (Libertarian) 5,130 votes, 1.81%.
This contest was not certified due to irregularities in Bladen and Robeson Counties involving requests for absentee ballots, unreturned absentee ballots, and individuals who illegally collected absentee ballots.
3 January 2019: Mark Everette Harris (Republican) is not sworn into the 116th Congress.
18 February 2019: The North Carolina State Board of Elections begins hearings.
21 February 2019: The North Carolina State Board of Elections votes unanimously to call a new election.
27 February 2019: The State Board of Elections will meet Monday 4 March 2019 to set a calendar for a special election in the 9th Congressional District.
4 March 2019: The State Board of Elections calls a Special Election to fill the vacant seat in CD 9.
  • Friday 15 March 2019 - Filing Deadline. Candidate lists from the State Board of Elections.
  • Tuesday 14 May 2019 - Special Party Primary. If no candidate receives 30% of the vote, the two leading candidates proceed to a run off. Unopposed candidates do not appear on the primary ballot. Returns from an official source. Since the Democrats had 1 candidate and 1 Republican candidate received more that 30% of the vote, there will be no runoff-- a General Election will be on 10 September.
  • Tuesday 10 September 2019 - Special Party Runoff or General Election (depending on the need for a runoff. Returns from the North Carolina State Board of Elections. State Senator James Daniel "Dan" Bishop is elected with 51% of the vote.
  • Tuesday 5 November 2019 - Special Election (if there is a runoff)
