20 August 2008: Congressman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, 58, passed away after suffering an aneurysm. She was first elected in 1998 and was renominated in the 4 March 2008 Primary. The Cuyahoga County Democratic Party has until 26 September to name a replacement candidate for the General Election. The Democratic Party met on 11 September to select their nominee. Marcia L. Fudge was chosen. The filed candidates include Mayor Marcia L. Fudge, Gerald C. Henley, Carolyn R. Johnson, former State Senator Jeffrey Johnson, Jim Joyner, Nathaniel Martin, Marvin A. McMickle, former Council Member Bill Patmon, Isaac Powell, former State Senator C.J. Prentiss, Frank Rives, Sean Ryan, and Thomas J. Wheeler. Special Election was held on Tuesday 18 November 2008 to fill the remainder of Congressman Stephanie Tubbs Jones term in the 110th Congress. Congressman-elect Marcia L. Fudge (Democrat), who won the 4 November election (111th Congress), ran unopposed. |
