Congressman Martin T. "Marty" Meehan (Democrat, Massachusetts House CD 5) resigned 1 July 2007 to become Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Congressman Tom Lantos (Democrat, California CD 12) passed away 11 February 2008 at the age of 80 from esophageal cancer.
