Alabama - Primary

for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, 7 U.S. House Seats, Secretary of State,
Attorney General, Treasurer, Auditor, Commissioner of Agriculture and Industry

Polls close at 7 PM local time (0000 UTC)

If no candidate receives at least 50% of the vote, a runoff will be held
between the top two vote-getters on Tuesday 18 July [this runoff was
originally scheduled for Tuesday 27 June: 

 SB529 changed the date of the primary runoff election from 27 June to
 18 July to provide military personnel serving overseas adequate time
 to cast absentee ballots.

 "SB529: amending the State's election law as follows--

  17-16-6. Presidential preference primaries and primary elections,
  except special primary elections ... shall be held on the first Tuesday
  in June.

  17-16-36. (b) If no candidate receives a majority of all of the votes cast
  in the primary election ... then there shall be held a second primary
  election on the sixth Tuesday following the primary election...."

This change in the date of the Runoff (if necessary) will be implemented
pending approval of SB529 by the U.S. Department of Justice.]

California Special Election...
U.S. House of Representatives: 50th Congressional District

This Special Election, necessitated by the resignation of Congressman
Randy "Duke" Cunningham on 28 November 2005, is in addition to the Primary
Election being held at the same time in this CD.

The SPECIAL ELECTION will elect a Congressman to serve until the expiration
of the 109th Congress at Noon, 3 January 2007; the concurrent PRIMARY
ELECTION, meanwhile will choose Party nominees who will run against each other
in the General Election on 7 November 2006 for the full two-year term in the
110th Congress, beginning at Noon on 3 January 2007.

New Jersey Special Primary ...
U.S. House of Representatives: 13th Congressional District

This Special Primary, necessitated by the resignation of Congressman Bob
Menendez upon being appointed on 18 January 2006 by Governor Corzine to fill
the vacancy caused by his own resignation from the United States Senate,
is in addition to the Primary Election being held at the same time in this CD.

The SPECIAL PRIMARY will choose Party nominees re: a Special Election for a
Congressman to serve until the expiration of the 109th Congress at Noon,
3 January 2007; the concurrent PRIMARY ELECTION, meanwhile, will choose Party
nominees who will run against each other in the General Election on 7 November

South Dakota - Primary

Polls close at 8 PM in the Central Time Zone,
7 PM in the Mountain Time Zone (0100 UTC).

If no candidate for United States Senate, Congressman, or Governor receives
35% of the vote, a secondary election, between the two highest vote getters,
shall be held two weeks from the date of the primary election (Tuesday 20 June
in 2006). Since no race in the 6 June 2006 Primary involves more than two
candidates for nomination to any of these offices, this secondary election
will not be held this year.

Nominees for the offices of Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney
General, Treasurer, Auditor, and Commissioner of School and Public Lands are
selected by Party convention. Recognized political parties in the State are
the Constitution Party of South Dakota (Annual State Meeting Saturday 13 May);
South Dakota Democratic Party (Convention Thursday 22 through Saturday

as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency by a vote of 78 yeas, 15 nays
and 7 not voting.

The United States Senate confirmed Governor Dirk Kempthorne of Idaho as
Secretary of the Interior by a vote of 85 yeas, 8 nays and 7 not voting.
Governor Kempthorne was first elected Governor of Idaho in 1998 and re-elected
in 2002. He served in U.S. Senate (elected: 1992) and was nominated by
President George W. Bush to be the Secretary of the Interior on 16 March 2006.

Upon the confirmation of Governor Kempthorne, Lieutenant Governor James
E. "Jim" Risch (Republican) ascended to the position of Governor of Idaho.
Mr. Risch was first elected as Lieutenant Governor in 2002 and was

This primary election is for Democratic and Republican candidates only.
Where no candidate received at least 50% of the vote, a runoff between
the two top vote-getters will be held on Tuesday 13 June 2006.

Republican Governor Mike Huckabee is at term limit.

Republican Lieutenant Governor Win Rockefeller and Democratic Treasurer
Gus Wingfield are not running for re-election.

Democratic Secretary of State Charlie Daniels, Democratic Auditor Jim Wood,
and Democratic State Lands Commissioner Mark Wilcox each received their
party's nomination for re-election. 
 
Democratic Attorney General Mike Beebe received his party's nomination for
Governor.

Contested STATEWIDE races:

Lieutenant Governor: 
  Democrats: William A. "Bill" Halter (40.33%) and Tim L. Wooldridge (25.88%)
    will participate in a 13 June runoff
