The primary ballot included a write-in line for each office. No Green Party nominees appeared on the ballot. Six statewide incumbents ran in this primary: Democratic Senator E. Benjamin "Ben" Nelson, Republican Governor Dave Heineman, Republican Secretary of State John A. Gale, and Republican Attorney General Jon Bruning all received their party's nomination.
