"Mike" Leavitt was approved by a Senate Roll Call Vote (88-8) for ADMINISTRATOR, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY. Governor Leavitt's formal resignation and Lieutenant Governor Olene Walker's swearing-in as Utah Governor are scheduled for Wednesday 5 November at 10 AM MST (Noon EST, 9 AM PST). http://www.thegreenpapers.com/G03/UT.phtml Former Utah state legislator and university trustee Gayle McKeachnie has been chosen to become Lieutenant Governor when current Lieutenant Governor Olene Walker is sworn in as Governor on 5 November. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday, October 20, 2003 - Indiana swears in first female Lieutenant Governor http://www.thegreenpapers.com/G03/IN.phtml#LG In the wake of the death of Governor Frank O'Bannon (D-Indiana) last month, each house of the Indiana General Assembly unanimously approved Governor Joe Kernan's nominee for the Lieutenant Governor's post (vacated when Kernan succeeded to the Governorship upon Mr. O'Bannon's passing), 47-year-old Katherine L. Davis. Ms. Davis- who has been a State budget director and, most recently, Indianapolis city controller- thus becomes the first woman to serve in either of Indiana's two highest State offices. Indiana's new Lieutenant Governor was sworn in during an inauguration ceremony held at Noon (1700 UTC) today, shortly after the State House of Representatives unanimously approved her nomination viva voce and the State Senate followed suit with a 48-0 confirmation vote.
