What is new and what has changed at TheGreenPapers.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Recap: Louisiana Open Primaries - Saturday 4 October 2003 http://www.thegreenpapers.com/G03/LA.phtml LOUISIANA holds a so-called "Open" (that is, a non-partisan) Primary. If one candidate receives 50% or more of the vote, that candidate is declared the winner. Should no candidate receive 50% of the vote in this "Open" (non-partisan) Primary, the two top vote-getters (irrespective of Party affiliation) will participate in a Runoff to be held on Saturday 15 November 2003. Governor: Incumbent Governor M.J. "Mike" Foster (Republican) is at term limit and cannot run for re-election. Since no candidate received 50% or more of the vote in the 4 October primary, a 15 November runoff will be held between the two highest vote getters: Republican "Bobby" Jindal (33%) and Democrat (and outgoing Lt. Governor) Kathleen Babineaux Blanco (18%). Lt. Governor: Democrat "Mitch" Landrieu elected. Secretary of State: Incumbent Republican W. Fox McKeithen was re-elected. Treasurer: Incumbent Democrat John Neely Kennedy re-elected unopposed. Attorney General: Democrat Charles C. Foti, Jr. elected. Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry: Incumbent Democrat Bob Odom re-elected. California Governor Gray Davis will face a recall election on 7 October 2003. In the first part of the ballot, voters will vote for or against the recall. In the second part, voters may select a replacement candidate from a list of 135 candidates and 28 certified write-ins.
