Should no candidate receives a majority of the primary vote, a run-off (second primary) will held between the top two vote getters on Tuesday 26 August 2003. Mississippi is electing its Governor in 2003; incumbent Democratic Governor Ronnie Musgrove is running in his Party's Primary for re-election. The process leading to the recall: Wednesday 23 July 2003: 1,356,408 (in excess of 100%) of the necessary 897,158 petition signatures are verified by Secretary of State Kevin Shelley. The recall has qualified for the ballot. Thursday 24 July 2003: Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante sets Tuesday 7 October 2003 as the date for the gubernatorial recall election in California. Replacement candidates must file no later than 9 August 2003. Candidates must obtain 65 nomination signatures (from members of their own party) and pay a $3,500 filing fee (or submit 10,000 signatures in lieu of the fee).
