The delegate selection processes herein, was updated on 1 February 2012.

Starting on Tuesday 20 March 2012, a 15% pledged delegate bonus is awarded when clusters of 3 or more neighboring states begin on the same date. American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are considered neighboring states of each other. [Reg 5.1.C Article I.C.2.b]


   

Saturday 2 June - Sunday 3 June 2012: 7 of 13 delegates to the Democratic National Convention are pledged to presidential contenders based on the results of the voting in today's Virgin Islands Territorial Convention. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be pledged National Convention delegates.

  • 7 At-Large delegates are to be pledged proportionally to presidential contenders based on the Caucus results in each of the Island's "districts".
    • St. Thomas/St John: 3 delegates
    • St. Croix: 4 delegates

The 6 "Unpledged" votes are cast by:

  • This territory's Democratic Member of Congress (=a non-voting Delegate in the House of Representatives): territorial Delegate Donna M. Christensen.
  • This territory's Democratic Governor: territorial Governor John P. deJongh, Jr..
  • This territory's 4 Democratic National Committee members: State Chair, State Vice Chair, National Committee Man, and National Committee Woman.

The delegates and the 3 Convention Standing Committees, Delegation Chair and pages are elected on 3 June 2012.
