The delegate selection processes herein was updated 14 April 2012 per the Draft 2012 Delegate Selection Plan.


Starting on Tuesday 20 March 2012, a 15% pledged delegate bonus is awarded when clusters of 3 or more neighboring states (Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, and Wyoming) begin on the same date (14 April 2012).

The state recieved 10% pledged delegate bonus for starting in Stage II (April).

Participation in Nebraska's delegate selection process is open to all voters who wish to participate as Democrats. "Democrats" are those persons of legal voting age who are registered in Nebraska as Democrats or who register as Democrats at the Precinct Caucus.


Saturday 14 April 2012: First Tier- Precinct Caucuses. The Precinct Caucus participants choose delegates to the County Conventions according to their Presidential preference. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be allocated County Convention delegates.

The number of National Convention delegates can be estimated from the results of today's caucuses.

Friday 1 June - Sunday 10 June 2012: Second Tier: County Conventions. County Convention delegates choose the county's delegates to the Nebraska State Democratic Convention. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be allocated State Democratic Convention delegates.

 

Saturday 23 June 2012: Third and final tier: The State Democratic Convention convenes. 38 of 44 delegates to the Democratic National Convention are pledged to presidential contenders based on the results of the voting at the Nebraska State Democratic Convention. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be allocated National Convention delegates at the congressional district or statewide level.

25 district delegates are to be allocated proportionally to presidential contenders based on the preferences of State Convention delegates from each of the State's 3 congressional districts.

  • CD 1: 9
  • CD 2: 10
  • CD 3: 6

13 delegates are to be allocated to presidential contenders based the support for the presidential contenders at the State Convention as a whole.

  • 9 at-large National Convention delegates
  • 4 Pledged PLEOs

The remaining 6 National Convention delegates consist of

  • 6 Unpledged PLEO delegates:
    • 5 Democratic National Committee members.
    • 1 Member of Congress (1 Senator and 0 Representatives).
    • 0 Governors.
    • 0 Distinguished Party Leaders.

These 6 delegates and will go to the Democratic National Convention officially "Unpledged".
