The delegate selection processes herein was updated 1 May 2012 per the 2012 Delegate Selection Plan.


Starting on Tuesday 20 March 2012, a 15% pledged delegate bonus is awarded when clusters of 3 or more neighboring states begin on the same date (8 May 2012).

The state received a 20% pledged delegate bonus for starting in Stage III (May and June).

Tuesday 8 May 2012: 96 of 105 delegates to the Democratic National Convention are allocated to presidential contenders based on the results of the voting in today's Indiana Presidential Primary. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be allocated National Convention delegates at either the congressional district or statewide level. Participation in Indiana's delegate selection process is open to all voters who wish to participate as Democrats.

  • 63 district delegates are to be allocated proportionally to presidential contenders based on the primary results in each of the State's 9 congressional districts.
  • In addition, 33 delegates are to be allocated to presidential contenders based on the primary vote statewide.
    • 22 at-large National Convention delegates
    • 11 Pledged PLEOs

Presidential Obama is the only Democratic candidate on the ballot and receives all of the pledged delegates.

The National Convention delegates are elected according to the results of the primary.

The remaining 9 National Convention delegates consist of

  • 9 Unpledged PLEO delegates:
    • 6 Democratic National Committee members.
    • 3 Members of Congress (0 Senators and 3 Representatives).
    • 0 Governors.
    • 0 Distinguished Party Leaders.

These 9 delegates and will go to the Democratic National Convention officially "Unpledged".
