  • Member of Congress Michael "Mike" Waltz (Republican, Florida, CD 6) resigned on 20 January 2025.
  • Member of Congress Sylvester Turner (Democratic, Texas, CD 18) died on 5 March 2025.

All candidates, both party members and independents, participate in a non-partisan 2 June 2026 Special Primary. If one candidate receives a majority (50% + 1) of the primary vote, that candidate is elected. Otherwise, the top two vote getters, regardless of party, advance to the 4 August 2026 Special General Election. The election will use the old (2024) district lines.

Special Election - 14 April 2026: Governor Gavin Newsom (Democratic) called a Special Election to fill the vacant seat for the remainder of the term which ends in January 2027. All candidates, both party members and independents, participate in a non-partisan 16 June 2026 Special Primary. If one candidate receives a majority (50% + 1) of the primary vote, that candidate is elected. Otherwise, the top two vote getters, regardless of party, advance to the 18 August 2026 Special General Election. The election will use the old (2024) district lines.

6 January 2026: Governor Brian Porter Kemp (Republican) called a special election to fill the vacant seat of former Member of Congress Marjorie Taylor Greene (Republican) who resigned on 5 January 2026. The Special Election is Tuesday 10 March 2026; the runoff, if necessary is Tuesday 7 April 2026. Filing is Monday 12 to Wednesday 14 January 2026.

For special elections, all candidates (regardless of party) run in the primary. If 1 candidate receives a majority (50% + 1), that candidate wins. If no one receives a majority, the top 2 candidates the most votes advance to a special runoff 28 days later.

The Special Partisan Primary is 5 February 2026 and the Special General Election is 16 April 2026. The filing deadline is 1 December 2025 for the primary and 5 February 2026 for independents.
