 29 May 2018: While the state legislature was considering impeachment proceedings, Governor Eric Greitens (Republican), who was first elected in 2016, announced his resignation effective Friday 1 June 2018 at 5pm local time.
1 June 2018: Lieutenant Governor Michael L. "Mike" Parson (Republican) ascends to the Governor's chair. He will serve the remainding 2 1/2 years of Governor Eric Greitens' term.
