  • Congressman Mark Eugene Amodei (Republican, Nevada CD 2) was elected to Congress in a 13 September 2011 special election and sworn on 15 September.
  • Congressman Robert L. "Bob" Turner (Republican, New York CD 9) was elected to Congress in a 13 September 2011 special election and sworn on 15 September.
  • Congressman Gabrielle "Gabby" Giffords (Democratic, Arizona CD 8) resigned 25 January 2012 to recover from a gunshot wound received at an 8 January 2011 constituent meeting.
  • Congressman Suzanne Bonamici (Democratic, Oregon CD 1) was elected to Congress in a 31 January 2012 special election. Sworn on 7 February 2012.
  • Congressman Ron Barber (Democratic, Arizona CD 8) was elected to Congress in a 12 June 2012 special election and sworn on 19 June 2012.

8 January 2011: Congressman Gabrielle "Gabby" Giffords (Democratic) was shot at a constituent meeting at a Safeway grocery store in Tuscon. Fox News, CNN.
22 January 2012: Congressman Giffords announced that she will resign from Congress. "I will return, and we will work together for Arizona and this great country." Once she officially resigns, the Governor will call a special primary (80 to 90 days after the occurrence of the vacancy-- circa April) and a special general election (50 to 60 days after the primary-- circa June). [Arizona Revised Statutes 16-222].
25 January 2012: Congressman Giffords, who was first elected in 2006, resigned.
27 January 2012: Arizona Governor Janice K. "Jan" Brewer called a Special U.S. House CD 8 Primary for Tuesday 17 April 2012 and a Special Election for Tuesday 12 June 2012 to fill the Seat vacated by the resignation of Congressman Gabrielle "Gabby" Giffords (Democratic). 12 June 2012: Ron Barber (Democratic) was elected.

Congressman Giffords was first elected in 2006. The Congressman is recovering from a gunshot wound received at an 8 January 2011 constituent meeting at a grocery store in Tuscon.

5 July 2012: a statement issued by his staff today notes that the Congressman's "medical condition is more serious than we thought and initially believed" and that "he has grappled with certain physical and emotional ailments privately for a long period of time"; the statement went on to note that he will require "extended in-patient treatment as well as continuing medical treatment thereafter".
27 July 2012: Reports state that Congressman Jackson has been admitted to the Rochester Minnesota Mayo Clinic for depression and gastrointestinal ailments.
13 August 2012: The Mayo Clinic has confirmed that Congressman Jackson is being treated at their facility for Bipolar Disorder II. It was thought that- based on statements by an aide last week- the Congressman might be back in his District for the first time in some two months sometime later this week; the Congressman's staff has not publicly commented on the Mayo Clinic's announcement.
7 September 2012: Media reports state that Congressman Jackson has left the Mayo Clinic and is back home.
21 November 2012: Resigned stating "... I hereby resign as a member of the United States House of Representatives, effective today, in order to focus on restoring my health."
