| 29 April 2011: Governor Brian E. Sandoval called a Tuesday 13 September 2011 special election to fill the soon to be vacant U.S. House CD 2 seat of Congressman Dean Heller. There will be no primary. The winner of the special election (the candidate receiving the most votes) will serve the remainder of current term which ends in January 2013. On 19 May 2011, District Judge James Russell ruled that ballot qualified parties (Democratic, Independent American, Libertarian, and Republican) have until 30 June 2011 to choose a nominee. Other candidates must submit 250 signatures to appear on the ballot. The ruling was confirmed, 6-1, by the Nevada Supreme Court on 5 July 2011.
