	Democrat Laura Richardson won the 21 August 2007 run off with about 65% of the vote. Returns from an official source. On Tuesday 26 June 2007 California held a special election to fill the open U.S. House CD 37 seat vacated by the Sunday 22 April 2007 passing of Democratic Congressman Juanita Millender-McDonald. Since no candidate received 50% of the vote + 1, a 21 August 2007 run-off election will be held between the top vote getter from each party. Democrat: Laura Richardson 37.76%. Republican: John M. Kanaley 7.64%. Green: Daniel Abraham Brezenoff 1.21% Libertarian: Herbert G. "Herb" Peters 1.08%. Returns from an official source. On Thursday 26 April 2007, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger called a 26 June 2007 special election to fill this vacant seat. If no candidate receives 50% of the vote + 1, a run-off election will be held on 21 August 2007, between the top vote getters from each party. The filing deadline is 14 May 2007. The date of the primary election is calculated by counting back eight Tuesdays or, if the eighth Tuesday is the day of or the day following a state holiday, the ninth Tuesday preceding the day of the general ("runoff") election at which the vacancy is to be filled. Sunday 22 April 2007: We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Democratic Congressman Juanita Millender-McDonald who passed away today at the age of 68. She had had taken a leave of absence from Congress on 18 April after being diagnosed with cancer. The primary will be on 4 September and the general election on 16 October 2007. The deadline for filing nomination papers is 5:00p 31 July 2007 for party candidates and 4 September 2007 for non-party candidates.
